News footage from the 1pm ITN news of the demolition of Kersal Flats on the 14th October 1990. This event was apparently the largest controlled demolition ever.

News footage from the 8.30pm ITN news of the demolition of Kersal Flats on the 14th October 1990. This clip is shorter but it has pictures of a definat lift shaft in Johnson House at the end.

Some ITN news footage of the flooding of Kersal Flats on the 28th October 1980. The clip shows the scale and the extent of the flooding, some remedial action, and children playing. I was playing at the bottom of Shelley House on that date but sadly (or perhaps not) I am not in the film footage.

This is a clip of Kersal Flats taken from an ITN News Story of Tower Blocks in Salford in 1986 called Minimal Entry. The clip is short and hence is repeated several times. The clip moves from Milton House, round to the shops, and then shows Burns, Blake, Cowper and Keats Houses. The estate is clearly very run down by this time and is clearly on its last legs. The full news story can be seen below

This is a second clip of Kersal Flats taken from an ITN News Story of Tower Blocks in Salford in 1986 called Minimal Entry. The clip is of some form of social worker in front of Keats Courts discussing a particular case which shows how badly the area had deteriorated. The full news story can be seen below.

A small clip of George Best training at the Cliff with Kersal Flats in the background. This was some time in the early 1970s

An extract from a 1974 Granda TV news story on housing crisis, slums, the housing boom and mortgages. This extract features the late Tony Wilson filming in Rushley Avenue near Kersal Flats, and has footage of the flats and the surrounding streets

This is some news footage of the demolition of the cooling towers at Agecroft power station on the 8th May 1994. The towers had dominated the local skyline for a long time. This event was also notable because of the nest of two rare peregrine falcons.

The full version of Minimal Entry an ITN news story on tower blocks, crime, poverty, health and social disintegration from 1986. There is some footage of Kersal Flats and two clips were extracted from it above.

An ITN News story from 1988 which deals with the problem of living in Salford Tower blocks. This paints a depressing picture of crime, poverty and fear. No footage of Kersal Flats but much which is relevant.

This is part 1 of the full version of the 1974 Granda TV news story on housing crisis, slums, the housing boom and mortgages. The late Tony Wilson explores these themes inlight of the upcoming election. This contains slum footage of Salford and Manchester and views of Kersal Flats and the surrounding streets.

This is part 2 of the full version of the 1974 Granda TV news story on housing crisis, slums, the housing boom and mortgages. A report for Granda Reports on the 23rd October 1972 by Margaret O'Donnell on flats close to Kersal. The flat was based on Bury New Road and was built by Salford Corporation Builders who also built Kersal Flats. The report illustrates the problems of shoddy flat building and the huge cost to the taxpayer.

This is a video showing the history of Kersal Dale which was made by the friends of Kersal Dale
